Locality: | USA. ALABAMA. Conecuh: Ca. 1 mi E of Brooklyn, AL, growing on N bank of the Sepulga River. Very large population consisting of 1000's to 10,000's of individual plants in remarkable density scattered about appx. 1/4-1/2 mi on the N river bank. |
Habitat: | Plants growing in calcareous clay soils that are consistently wet with moderate seepage. Rhizomatous form of the species, usually forming no more than 3-4 growth points per individual, though large individuals are present. Plants appear similar in appearance to disjunct FL Apalachicola populations in overall flower appearance. Emarginate petal margins with odd, striking veination pattern. Dark green ovary and bright, orange pollen characteristics consistent for entire population. With Adiantum capillus-veneris, Christella ovata, and abundant Hepatophytes and Bryophytes. |
