Taxonomic Notes:This species was first reported for Alabama in 2007 based on a 2005 Sumter County collection (Keener #2614). However, an earlier record, and apparently the first from Alabama, was collected in Etowah County (Hodge-Spaulding #4434) in 1996. The Etowah record was originally misidentified as Apium leptophyllum [=Cyclospermum leptophyllum] of which Ammoselinum butleri could be easily confused. The species was probably present in Alabama much earlier than both of these records but went undetected due to the low stature in lawns.--B.R. Keener
