Plant Notes:Narrowleaf Seedbox is a native herbaceous perennial in the Evening-Primrose family (Onagraceae). It is native primarily to the southern half of Alabama. Narrowleaf Seedbox occurs on the margin of ponds and lakes, in swamps, in water filled depressions, and in wet roadside ditches. It often grows in shallow standing water. Narrowleaf Seedbox is a perennial from a taproot. The stems are erect, often swollen and spongy near the base, branched above the middle, and glabrous to pubescent. It is often colonial from stolons. Leaves are alternate, sessile or short petiolate, lanceolate to narrowly elliptic or linear in outline, glabrous or pubescent, with entire margins. Flowers are solitary in the axils of the mid and upper leaves. Each flower has 4 green triangular sepals and 4 yellow petals. The fruit is a 4-angled capsule. The capsule is ob-pyramidal in outline with a shallow central groove on each face. The seed are eaten by ducks and other waterfowl.—A. Diamond.
